JTB BatchAttEdit for Autodesk Advance Steel

From the Autodesk App Store:

This batch attribute editor app for AutoCAD collects attributes in all blocks of specified name patterns in multiple drawings and display in a wide spreadsheet. Then you can edit attribute texts as easy as working with Excel. Once done, click "Apply Attribute Changes" to update values to drawings.

This makes it a great app to for example edit title block attributes across many drawings instead of having to do it one drawing at a time.

Export to Excel and import to Excel makes it possible to make changes using Excel an option.

Exclusive: Talking With Bob Palioca, President of Ideate Inc., About Their Increased Focus on Their Products

News broke last week that Ideate and IMAGINiT had combined operations. I happened to be communicating with an IMAGINiT staffer around that time and she mentioned in passing an acquisition they'd just made. After realizing she was referring to IMAGINiT's acquisition of Ideate, I wondered what their strategy would be around incorporating Ideate Software's offerings with IMAGINiT's own stable of Revit add-ins/add-ons.

Today I reached out to one of my contacts at IMAGINiT and learned that their acquisition doesn't include Ideate Software. The Ideate operations that combined with IMAGINiT are their VAR business. In this case, VAR stands for [Autodesk] value-added reseller. That is, Autodesk product sales and services, such as training.

I next reached out to Ideate Software president Bob Palioca to get his perspective on the matter.

Palioca confirmed that he'd divested himself of the VAR assets of his business, and that Ideate Software was continuing as a separate entity. IMAGINiT owns no interest in Ideate Software.

Free MCERF Complexity Measurement Tool – Analyzes Congestion and Complexity of MEP Spaces

From the Building System Planning website:

MCERF Complexity Measurement Tool

The Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF), the non-profit foundation of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA), collaborated with BuildingSP, a California-based software developer, on a building analysis add-in for the Autodesk Revit building information modeling (BIM) platform. The Revit add-in is called the MCERF Complexity Measurement Tool (CMT) and analyzes a building’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) spaces for congestion and complexity.

The Goals of Creating the MCERF CMT

The MCERF CMT has been created because complexity and congestion of spaces with MEP can be major obstacles, cost drivers, and schedule shifters for all construction projects. While the shift to BIM has transformed the industry, MEP subcontractors have a significant challenge to coordinate projects that are becoming more and more complex. MCERF and MCAA, like our member companies, believe that digital tools are an important and valuable part of construction. The MCERF CMT is being created to raise awareness of MEP congestion and complexity through measurable, reportable, and standardized values.

RvtSamples 2019

From the The Building Coder website:

By Jeremy Tammik
April 24, 2018

I already described how I installed Revit 2019, compiled the Revit 2019 SDK samples, migrated RevitLookup to the new version, The Building Coder samples, the AdnRme MEP HVAC and electrical samples and the AdnRevitApiLabsXtra training labs.

In the course of the last post, I forgot to mention setting up RvtSamples.

Just like the migration to previous versions, this is not a trivial undertaking.

Here are the discussions of the previous migrations to the Revit 2017 SDK and the Revit 2018.

To cut a long story short and simply share my current working RvtSamples source code for the Revit 2019 SDK, here is RvtSamples_2019.zip containing my modified files. It also includes some of the originals renamed by adding the suffix original.

Time-saving Features Big & Small in the Latest BIM Track Release

From the BIM Track website:

Fresh from the BIM Track factory, we’re happy to introduce major and minor time-saving features: because it all adds up! BIM Track is now happier than ever handling heavy models, can measure in a snap, plays nicely with Revit & Navisworks 2019, and more:

Major optimizations for large models

We’ve done quite a bit of work on the back end to make sure that BIM Track’s web viewer can handle larger models much more efficiently. For example, repeating geometries used to exponentially expand model size. These multiple geometries are now only loaded once in the memory so large models load significantly faster.

Naming Your Revit Elements with the Free Autodesk COBie Extension for Revit

From the CADD Microsystems website:

Naming Your Revit Elements with the COBie Extension

By Jason Kunkel
April 10, 2018

What’s in a name? If you are creating COBie deliverables, a lot.

Each element in a COBie spreadsheet needs to have a way to uniquely identify it. For most of the sheets, that is the “Name” field.

If you are creating a COBie deliverable from a Revit model, the best way to create and manage that data is with the Autodesk COBie Extension for Revit. The extension has a “Name Builder” feature for each COBie sheet that can be tracked in the Revit model, and it gives you a lot of flexibility when setting up the rules for creating your Revit element’s COBie names.

The Name Builder can be found under the settings for Space, Type, Component, and System under the COBie Extension Settings, and while each one can be configured differently, they all work exactly the same.

Dynamo Script to Rename Families in Project

From LinkedIn:

By ernesto pellegrino
Head Of R&D - Dynamo Padawan - presso La SIA srl

I've published a simple Dynamo script that allows to rename family names in the Revit model and it doesn’t require any instances to be placed. For instance, it works searching inside the project browser.

I was able to develop this script thanks to the clockwork 🙏 and data-shapes 🙏 packages, and of course all the members of the dynamobim forum.

Try, customize and share it as you like, hope it will be useful to you too,  ☮️.

Project Virga – Uses Machine Learning and A.I. to Create Parametric System Families

From the BuildingSP website:

Your Firm's DNA

The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is often described as "fragmented." Nothing typifies this description better than our past project CAD files. These files, which were created with much care and at significant cost, are haphazardly stored on hard drives throughout your enterprise.

As a whole, they are your firm's DNA - they describe what you've delivered to projects. (When graphically displayed, it literally looks like DNA.)

The Building Coder Samples and ADN Samples for Revit 2019

From the The Building Coder blog:

I already described how I installed Revit 2019, compiled the Revit 2019 SDK samples and migrated RevitLookup to the new version.

I now migrated some other basic samples and utilities:

The Building Coder Samples for Revit 2019

The migration of The Building Coder samples to Revit 2019 was just as trivial as RevitLookup.
  • Update the .NET framework target version to 4.7
  • Point the Revit API assembly references to the new DLLs.

No code changes were needed.

Free Sketchfab Add-in – Publish Revit Models Directly to Sketchfab

RevitLookup 2019 and New SDK Samples

From the The Building Coder website:

By Jeremy Tammik
April 16, 2018

Last week, I described how I installed Revit 2019 and compiled the Revit 2019 SDK samples.

On Sunday, I migrated RevitLookup to Revit 2019, which was very easy.

Next, I compared the directory contents to discover the new SDK samples.

RevitLookup 2019

The migration of RevitLookup to Revit 2019 was trivial.

It just required updating the .NET framework target version to 4.7 and pointing the Revit API assembly references to the new DLLs.

Cloud Services for Keynote Manager – Keynote Sharing Across Networks and Locations

From the Revolution Design website:

CLOUD SERVICES

Why Cloud Services?

Traditional Revit uses a local text file to store keynote data which works fine… as long as everyone is on the same network. However when you need to share projects with other offices or across large geographical areas this system fails. Coordinating the keynotes quickly devolves into a mass of emails back and forth with attached text files, or a Dropbox file sharing system that is vulnerable to overwriting and still has issues with pathing.

In addition, Autodesk has introduced Revit model sharing over A360. That’s great for Revit models, but it still doesn’t allow sharing of the keynote data, so we are stuck in the same trap.

Revolution Design is proud to offer a solution to this issue with Keynote Cloud! Keynote Cloud stores your keynotes in a cloud based database, allowing access from anywhere in the world using the same path. Keynote Cloud projects can be shared with anyone inside or outside your company as long as they have a Keynote Manager Cloud account, and you set their permission levels.

Dynamo v2.0

From the Dynamo website:

By Racel Williams
April 16, 2018

Today is the day! After a long wait, the much anticipated Dynamo 2.0 is finally here.

Dynamo 2.0 is a special and significant release for our team as it is a “major” release, but more importantly because it contains features and changes that will make desktop to web workflows possible in the future.

What’s so special about a “major” release?

As mentioned above and in previous blog posts, Dynamo 2.0 is a “major” release and this means several things:
  • Files (dyn and dyf) will be saved in a format that is not compatible with earlier versions of Dynamo. Dynamo 2.0 graphs and custom nodes can not be opened in 1.x.
  • Dynamo 2.0 can be installed side-by-side with an existing 1.x version allowing you to have control over which major version your project uses. In Dynamo for Revit, you will be prompted to choose which version you wish to run on first launch of Dynamo. This setting is cached per-session of Revit. A restart of Revit will enable you to change to a different version of Dynamo.

BIM Track™ v1.18.1

From the Autodesk App Store:

About This Version

Version 1.17.2, 4/16/2018

We have some exciting new features released with our latest update, particularly for project settings. We're happy to introduce:

Project templates

There can be a lot of detail saved within a project’s settings. To avoid the tedium of recreating these settings on each new project, you can now export a project’s settings for use on new projects. All issue attributes, including custom options, can be assigned to a project template. Save time and make sure you don’t miss any details by using project templates.

Categories as a project setting

On the web viewer, there is already a notion of categories by element type. Users can define the color, visibility & transparency of a category. It is now possible to assign these settings on the entire project. This gives consistent views across teams (helpful for screenshots etc.) and is helpful for comparative visualization. There is still an option for individual users to override these settings on the web viewer, should they need to. Learn how to set up categories as a project setting.

NavVis IndoorViewer Add-In for Autodesk® Revit®

From the Autodesk App Store:

NavVis provides an all-in-one reality capture solution that captures and visualizes indoor environments during the construction and operational phases. With NavVis IndoorViewer add-in for Autodesk® Revit®, NavVis users can now improve BIM workflows by connecting Revit models to 360° immersive imagery and point clouds that display the current state of the building. With this add-in, users can:
  • Create BIM models faster
  • Compare as-built with as-is
  • Spot differences visually
  • Verify measurements remotely
  • Collaborate with stakeholders online

NavVis IndoorViewer

From the NavVis website:
