Free SpankMyRevit v1.3

It's been a busy week posting about the Revit Add-ons inspired SpankMyRevit, but this should be the last, at least for awhile.

As we mentioned previously, Bird Tools developed the add-in independently while we were working with another developer in parallel. Over the past few days, as Bird Tools became aware of some of our original plans, they've kindly incorporated them into the app.

In version 1.0, SpankMyRevit emitted a single slapping sound. Now, in version 1.3, if <Alt> + <S> is pressed multiple times with less than 5 seconds between key presses, a sequence of sounds are played, in the following order:
  1. "Bad Revit!" + [slap] + "Ow!"
  2. [Slap] + "Ow!"
  3. [Slap] + "Ow!"
  4. [Slap] + louder "Ow!"
  5. [Slap] + louder "Ow!"
  6. [Slap] + louder "Ow!"
  7. [Slap] + "Oh, c'mon!" + Excessive Frustration Exception message box

SpankMyRevit – but don't Abuse it! An Update

Let's start at the beginning. Back in April, I posted a few prank articles featuring fictitious Revit add-ins. One of them, SpankMyRevit, for punishing Revit for not doing what one wants, garnered quite a bit of attention in terms of pageviews and feedback. It was just a little funny idea I had, but all feedback was positive and of the type, "I wish this was a real app!" So, shortly afterwards, I reached out to a developer friend of mine and he agreed, in his free time, to make the idea into reality, and I was working with him on this. Unfortunately, owing to his workload and other commitments, and especially to my own health issues, the app didn't get past the Alpha testing stage before...

Developer Bird Tools took the initiative to develop the app independently, cleverly using it to promote their business in the process. I thought this was great, and posted about the app a couple days ago.

Free SpankMyRevit! For Real this Time! (Updated)

For April Fools Day this year, we posted a few gag posts. One in particular seemed to resonate with our readership, SpankMyRevit, a free faux app for "punishing" Revit. Now, Bird Tools has converted the idea into reality.

Disclaimer: We at Revit Add-ons DO NOT condone physical violence of any kind, including domestic violence. This app is intended to be humorous. If you cannot take it as such, please do not use it. Also, when using, please be considerate of co-workers.

Simply download and install the add-in. After restarting Revit, a toggle item will appear on the Bird Tools tab.

Free Construction Material Library for EU

From the Autodesk App Store:

This construction Material Library can be used in most EU countries. The library includes manufacturer specific data about the materials like the material's density, thermal conductivity, and thickness. As such it is easier to include a specific material with real parameters onto a wall component and get an appropriate heat transfer coefficient (U value) directly. Change a material or thickness and this value changes accordingly. Additional information that is added into the material library is the material's thickness selection that helps to filter out the most appropriate combination. All material information is based on manufacturer datasheets, including a link (URL) from where additional information can be found. The library is available in English and Estonian. Although the library reach is the same in both cases, the descriptions are different (English or Estonian).

Free Stabiplan Openings Manager for Structural Engineers

From the MEPcontent website:

BIM means collaboration and this App is specifically designed for it. As a structural engineer, you can now easily communicate with MEP engineers and contractors to manage openings at high speed.

Combining openings, approving or declining opening requests, creating voids in the architectural or structural model, as well as creating your response file can all be done quickly and effectively.

Stabiplan Openings for MEP

From the MEPcontent website:

Take control over your MEP openings in Revit thanks to this App which facilitates an optimal cooperation with structural engineers so that you can detect and prevent clashes in BIM projects at an early stage.

You can now generate openings with increased accuracy on places where MEP elements (like ducts or pipes) are clashing with structural elements (like walls, floors or ceilings) – even when working with linked models.

Communicate in real time: simply send an opening request to the structural engineer, get a response file back and load it directly into your model to have the most up-to-date status for each opening.

Stabiplan Productivity Tools

From the Autodesk App Store:

This App includes six powerful time-saving tools:
Connect elements, Connect & rotate elements, Connect & copy elements, Rotate elements around another element, Rotate elements in free space, Reconnect elements

Connect elements with just 2 clicks
Simply select the element you want to connect and the element you want to connect into. No need to align and drag the element to the position where it should be connected. Or connect and rotate in one run with just 3 clicks.

Design faster in 3D
No need to go through all the steps imposed by the native Autodesk® Revit® functionalities anymore to connect, copy, and rotate elements or entire systems; with just a few clicks you can now perform these actions in any view, including 3D views, without having to create separate section views.
