PointCloud to Surface Suite

Description

PointCloud to Surface Suite has been designed for surveyors, architects, builders and developers working on as-built projects. It reads laser scan data captured onsite and imported into Autodesk® Revit®, streamlining the workflow needed to create complex surfaces in a BIM project to match as-built conditions.

Works with both structured and unstructured point cloud instances. Supports shared co-ordinate models.

The 14 Tools include:

Surface from Point Cloud Selection: This allows you to draw a selection box around the points of interest then select whether they should be mapped as either a topography, floor or roof element. For roofs and floors, you can select the build type and level for the new element. The section box can be used to filter out points on a broad scale, so by working in 3d view the section box in conjunction with the user drawn selection box allows very specific filtering of points to be added to each new element.

Surface from adaptive points: Reads all adaptive points from your document and creates a new topography, floor or roof element mapped to those points. This takes advantage of adaptive point ability to snap to pointclouds since Revit 2011.

Add Adaptive Points to Existing surface: Reads all adaptive points from your document and adds them to the existing topography, floor or roof element of your choosing.

Wall Tool: Mark out your wall lines with adaptive points that snap to the point cloud then use the wall tool to create straight or curved walls that align to your marks.

Model Lines: Mark out your lines with adaptive points that snap to the point cloud then use the Model Lines tool to create straight or Model Lines that align to your marks.

Topo Toolkit

Stepping Walls 

Stepping Walls is a plug-in that can be used to step selected walls along a topo surface. This tool can be used to create compound walls along the toposurface quickly and easily. 

Push To Topo

This tool is to push the selected Generic Models or Site Components onto the selected toposurface. This might be used to place manholes, seating benches, lamp posts, or other site features on a toposurface if they are of the Generic Model or Site category.

Topo Align — Contains 5 Surface Commands

Description

Topo Align contains 5 commands to assist in working with topo surfaces.

Align to Element

Pick elements (walls, floors, roofs, pads) and align topo surfaces to either the top or bottom face with variable vertical offsets to avoid coincident surfaces if required.

You can also align topo surfaces to individual edges and some limited support for aligning topo surfaces to families. There is still an early attempt at cleaning up (removing) existing topo points that are within the plan area of the element being used for the align. The results are mixed for very complex elements and some manual processing may still be required.

Points from Lines

Draw model lines and arcs BELOW the topo surface and use this tool to project them onto the topo surface as additional topo points. This is useful when grading regions of the site and you don’t want any topo surface manipulation beyond a given point. If the lines are selected from a closed loop you are asked if you want to remove the existing topo points within the plan shape.

Points along contours

Draw model lines as contours lines on levels/reference planes where you want to precisely control the proposed contour of the topo. Or draw the contours on a datum level below the topo and control the Z value of the points with the offset value. The command will prompt you to select the topo surface and then the contours lines. Topo points will be created along the model lines at the specified distances.

Free Engipedia Topo Shaper – Shape Topography With Model Lines

From the Autodesk App Store:

The main purpose of the tool is to shape topography instance with the help of model lines. The tool adds additional topography points along selected model lines. Line division can be per number of points or per distance between points. If there is more than one topography instance, the tool will prompt you to select only one.

All model lines are supported: lines, arcs, ellipses, curves and nurbs. Make sure that the selected model lines are not closed loops, otherwise the tool will warn and ignore them. If there are closed loops (circles, ellipses) to be used, then they should be divided into 2 or more parts with Autodesk® Revit® Split Element tool.

Topography is a mesh object so points division should be thought carefully. More points do not mean better results.

An additional feature is saving current topography. The current state of topography can be saved into a CSV points file, and the original state can be returned later using Revit Massing & Site > Topo surface > Create from Import > Specify Points File tool. Saved topography points CSV file is always in Meters.

Tool can be run via Add-ins tab on Revit ribbon.

Tutorial – Piling with Revit 2019, Dynamo and AutoCAD Civil 3D 2019

In this tutorial we will look at a simple method to generate piling from a finished ground level to a rock stratum from borehole data. Most of you will now have access to the Autodesk AEC collection but, I often find that people tend to use just one or two tools from this collection which doesn’t return value or efficiency. In this workflow we will utilise Revit 2019, Civil 3D 2019 and Dynamo.


This workflow can also be achieved using Dynamo and Revit to find the intersections between the piling and the surfaces, but this can take quite a while to execute on large datasets, is computationally expensive and will invariably crash the machine.
