Cost Analysis Dynamo Script

From the Architect Machines website:

Cost Analysis Script v1.0

By Ryan Cameron

This script will find all the enclosed rooms in your Revit model, calculate areas by asset name (e.g. Commons, Dorms, Corridor – you create the definition)

It will calculate the square footages and feed that back into your Excel document.  The Option selection in the excel document will then update those asset types in accordance with the color/option selected AFTER hitting save and Dynamo is set to Automatic.

Batch Add Shared Parameters From a Text File with Dynamo

From the DATA|SHAPES website:

BATCH ADD SHARED PARAMETERS FROM .TXT FILE WITH UI.MULTIPLEINPUTFORM ++

By Mostafa El Ayoubi
December 11, 2017

Adding shared parameters to a project is often a pain because you can’t batch add them through Revit’s user interface.

There are a couple of workarounds online that do the job just fine, like adding them using the “Transfert project standards” function. There are also great nodes from Archi-Lab to create/add shared parameters.

But, I decided that I’d offer an alternative that allows you to use the “.txt” shared parameters file and gives a simple user interface, where you can pick the parameters you’re interested in and set the categories the parameters are bound to. It’s important to be able to refer to a “.txt” file because it’s the only way to ensure the parameters will have the same GUID, and that they will actually be “shared”.

Dim Offset – Automatically Offset Dimension Text that Overlaps Extension Lines

From the Autodesk App Store:

A unique application that will save you a lot of time.

The application monitors all the created or edited dimensions and in case the dimensional text falls on dimensional lines, it moves the text aside!

Just run the plugin, tick the box and click the "Accept" button and your work in Autodesk® Revit® will become much more convenient and enjoyable!

Free CTB Link – Transform CAD Imports to Look Like They'd Plot from AutoCAD

From the Autodesk App Store:

This Autodesk® Revit® add-in allows you to make use of a CTB file to transform your CAD drawing before importing it.

Usually the CAD drawings are drawn in lines of different color/thickness than what they're supposed to be plotted. Thus before importing in Revit you need to have this extra step of transformation.

CTB Link does just that. Give it a CTB file, a CAD file and you will have your drawing in Revit just as you'd plot the CAD file in a PDF or printer.

Supports:
  • colors transformation
  • line weight transformation
  • line type transformation

Dynamo Templates

From the Architect Machines website:

There are many ways to create a template file for Dynamo. Here are two examples on how to begin to organize, sort, color code and standardize Dynamo start files for multiple users.

Version 01A takes an input, operation, sorting and output node approach.

Version 02A takes a user selection, creation/retrieval data, process, element creation (by type) and output data organization method. It also includes a group for “Directions” on the who, what and how to use the script and any associated information needed to make it operate.

This template file will be updated periodically to provide users with the most current, useful methods available to the community.

Handling Revit Warnings with Dynamo

From the Revit Structure blog:

Handling Revit Warnings – A Tutorial with Revit 2018 and Dynamo

By lawrenceh
December 4, 2017

We have all seen the Revit Warnings dialog and as you may already know, these can be ignored and the users can carry on with the tasks at hand but what does this mean for your project health! Some of these are problematic and ignoring the warnings is not really fixing the problem. I guess we should be mindful that if Revit sees fit to warn us of these issues then we should do something to resolve the problems. In the image below you can see a typical set of warnings in an average project. These can be a real headache for the BIM manager and in the following post I will outline a way of adding these errors to the model and then assigning users to ‘repair’ the problems.

What's Hot in Revit Add-ons for November 2017

Here on Revit Add-ons, with What's Hot, at about the middle of each month, we take a look back at the preceding month to see which posts published during that month received the most pageviews. We took a break from this series in October but return with vigor for November.

We published 106 posts in November 2017, the fifth month we've topped 100 posts per month in 2017, and received 59,000 pageviews for our efforts.

Last month, we covered Autodesk BIM 360 add-ins for the first time and spent a fair amount of time posting about them. As a result, half the posts that made the cut were related to BIM 360, including four of the top five, and the most viewed post of the month.

CVP-SYNC for Navisworks Manage – Export Clashes and Viewpoints to iFieldsmart Platform

From the Autodesk App Store:

This plugin allows you to export clashes and viewpoints to ifieldsmart platform.

After opening a specific project file in Autodesk® Navisworks®, you must create all the Clashes and Viewpoints. You can find the plugin under Navisworks "Tool Add-ins  -> CVP-SYNC”.

The CVP-SYNC plug-in uploads the created Clashes and Viewpoints on the "ifieldsmart platform". You can glimpse the data in "http://ifbim.ifieldsmart.com".

ClashViewPointManager (CVPM) for Navisworks Manage – Organize, Extend and Speed Up the Clash Detection Process

From the Autodesk App Store:

The aim of this app is to organize, extend and speed up the clash test process after performing Autodesk® Navisworks® Clash test. It boosts the process and action after running the Clash test which includes the following actions; 'Find and Assign to trade', 'Grouping', 'Rename Clash', 'Rename ViewPoints', 'Merging and Record Time'. The complete plugin has been designed to keep the process and actions usually performed by users to scale up the Clash Test. The plugin is an integrated kit of actions: Assigned to, Grouping, Rename Clash, Rename Viewpoints, Merging and Recording. This is the default process after running Clash tests regardless of the project you are working. iFieldSmart ClashViewPointManager picks up the most and default action and put them in flow which is best to speed up the process.

  1. Assign To: This option allows you to assign clashes to respective Test Name by selecting Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sprinkler trade type.
  2. Grouping: It is a feature that facilitates the grouping of elements and associated clashes for a better view and understanding, on the basis of common elements.
  3. Rename Clash: Allows users to define names for the clashes provisioning better understanding of a clash report, hence the clash report becomes more meaningful & easy to understand. You just   need to fill in a few fields like Project Name, Level Name and it will Rename the clashes for you.
  4. Rename ViewPoints: Allows you to give user defined names to the viewpoints for better understanding. The viewpoints will be more meaningful and easy to understand. You just need to fill in a few fields like Project Abbreviation, Level Name and it will Rename viewpoints for you.
  5. Merging: Merging tab allows you to merge viewpoints together i.e. Dim and Hide. This gives you a better understanding of the clash and the problems associated with it.
  6. Record Time: Record Time is an extended feature, keeping collaboration in mind and interaction with different engineers. Recording allows you to record the brainstorming & discuss the clashes to use the information for resolving the problem. This will greatly help productivity if you are working with different engineers.

CADS RC3D – Rebar for 3D Models

From the Autodesk App Store:

CADS RC3D has been designed to enhance the placement, annotation and bar marking of rebar in 3D structures. Building on the heritage of our world-leading detailing and bar listing software CADS RC / RebarCAD extends the detailing power of Autodesk® Revit®.

  • The software provides functionality to create 2D detail drawings and bar bending lists to country standards.
  • Additional annotation functions have been created to detail tapered ranges and mark rebar ends.
  • Enhanced layering tools allow rebar to be split into zones within a structure, rebar visibility can be controlled using the layer assignment.
  • Editing functions allow rebar to be copied from one structure to another.
  • Rebar can be 'joined' together to form new bar shapes.
  • Openings in the structure can be identified and trimming reinforcement added.
  • Path placement functions have been enhanced to allow the rebar to be placed parallel to another rebar in the structure.
  • Assign rebar to a structure, release and drawing sheet; manage the rebar according to these assignments.
  • The rebar lists can be placed on drawing sheets or printed using industry standard templates.
  • The bar list templates are easy to customise to company standards.

The Family Exporter

From the Autodesk App Store:

The Software
  • Is intended to simplify exporting current model families to independent content libraries.
  • Exported content is sorted into category subfolders.
  • Features content list filter and sorting functions. Filter settings are stored between sessions.
  • Displays preview image and selected family data.

The Interface
  • Topmost the info area. This area holds the family preview image and selected content data. Note, the preview image could be empty. The overwrite checkbox should be used if you want to re-export families. If left un-checked you will get an additional popup warning at export time.
  • Next you will find this model's families list. Initially this list holds all the families present in the model, sorted by category and name. The list header has one checkbox intended for quick check/uncheck of all entries in the list. It also has filter funnel symbols allowing you to filter the list both by category and family name. Each list entry has a checkbox allowing you to select single families for export. It is recommended you filter this list only to show the Revit categories relevant. You could also filter this list by family name to simplify your further selection. Clicking the header will sort the list either ascending or descending. Note, light green checkbox indicates that the family already exists at the given path.
  • The list separator line is next. Drag up and down to adjust the list sizes.
  • The lower list is intended to show the family types in currently selected family. Note, this list could be empty if no types are defined in the selected family.
  • At the bottom, you will find the currently selected output path, the set output path button and the export button. The export button is enabled when an entry in the family list is checked.

IFC Component Replacer

From the Autodesk App Store:

Working with IFC models in Autodesk® Revit® has significant limitations. Components from IFC models are difficult to manage and edit. The IFC Component Replacer app automatically replaces the simple IFC generated in-place mass element, IFC import symbols and IFC non-parametric components from an IFC model with native Revit family components so you can use the power of Revit families in your IFC Revit project.

Simply pick one of the IFC objects you want to replace. All copies of this object in the project will be selected and can be replaced with a Revit component family of your choosing. The orientation of the replacement family can be adjusted while replacing the IFC object.

The 4 simple steps:
  1. Select an IFC object instance of the type to be replaced
  2. Choose the replacement family type from a drop-down list
  3. If necessary, correct the orientation of the new component
  4. All instances of the selected IFC component in any orientation will be replaced

In Autodesk® Revit® each IFC object is typically an individual separate in-place family. Therefore they cannot be easily selected as a group and all replaced in one operation. e.g. you can’t use “Select All Instances”. You will have to find and replace each element one by one throughout the project which is time-consuming.

Open Source IFC Property Viewer

From the Revit API Forum:

By GeomGym
December 8, 2017

I'm involved in an open source project that might be of interest and benefit to other Revit API developers.

It's available in an infant form at https://github.com/jmirtsch/RevitIfcPropertyBrowser

Primarily it's a replica of the Revit property browser, when you select a single element or multiple elements, it displays the appropriate IFC properties as would be generated when exporting to IFC (Industry Foundation Class openBIM format).  An image is below.

There are many planned improvements for this project, including the ability to edit the revit parameters from the IFC properties (which permits the opportunity for some more interesting user interface controls for doing so).

Free Stabicad Recesses App For Clash Management

From the Stabiplan website:

STABICAD RECESSES APP FOR OPTIMAL COOPERATION IN BIM PROJECTS

For an optimal cooperation in a BIM project you need clash detections as an essential part of the BIM workflow. A common used feature for this is the Recesses application in Stabicad. This application automatically generates and imports recesses requests. In Stabicad for Revit the Recesses application also integrates the workflow of the recesses requests. This means that the approval of architectural parties and the process of recesses changes in architectural model are automated.

With the Stabicad Recesses application non Stabicad users can adopt recess requests. This Add-in BIM tool is free to download and updates are posted on this website. So from now on architectural parties can simply and directly communicate with partners in a BIM project and apply recesses requests.

Go BIM LIVE and download the Stabicad Recesses application.

A manual is available for the Recesses application. You can download it here.
