ETAP DataX™ – Revit and ETAP Interoperability

From the Autodesk App Store:

ETAP DataX - Autodesk® Revit® interface offers the capability to import Revit Electrical System into ETAP power system software. This smart plugin includes direct communication between ETAP and Revit software and flexible mapping tools in order for users to transform and manipulate data. This tool saves a lot of time by not only allowing for custom mapping of data but also automatically generates an equivalent one-line diagram in ETAP. This one-line diagram utilizes AutoBuild™ layout logic and spacing to quickly start the process of detailed design in ETAP software and perform power system analysis to validate and update the electrical model. The import interface from the Revit software for BIM (Building Information Modeling) provides the designer and engineers with the necessary tools to transfer the model to the ETAP software for performing complete electrical system design and analysis. Learn more about this interface.

Note that use of this plugin requires ETAP 18.0 or higher and DataX - Revit Interface module. Contact ETAP for Pricing.

  • Improve engineering design quality
  • Reduce cost by significantly reducing hours needed to perform system studies
  • Avoid duplicate / incorrect data entry
  • Direct communication with Revit
  • Flexibility to use all ETAP modules for analysis

What’s Hot in Revit Add-ons for August 2018

Here on Revit Add-ons, with What's Hot, at about the middle of each month, we take a look back at the preceding month to see which new posts received the most pageviews.

We published 33 posts in July 2018, and received 50,882 pageviews.

From the 33 posts, we chose to include the top 10 in this month's shortlist. Ordinarily, we wouldn't include such a high percentage, but there was little separation between the #3-10 posts.

The new add-in Formwork for Concrete Structures topped the list. Other new add-ins that charted were Bird Tools' Tag Alignment Tool (#2), BIM BOQ Quantifier (#3), EnR3D Generation (#5), and Avoid Clashed (#10).

Updates that charted this month were Transfer Single v1.4.0 (#6), IFC 2019 (#7), and Dimensions by Line v1.5.0.0 (#9).

Revit Add-ons original content that charted were our roundup of the Autodesk App Store for Jun 18 - July 15 (#4), and July's What's Hot article (#8).

NameConvention – Enforce Naming Standards

From the Autodesk App Store:

Digitteck® NameConvention™ – Whether you are working on small or large-scale projects, naming convention will always be an important component of your work. Naming conventions and standards are required whether you implement BIM or not. Variability and inconsistencies often lead to confusion, error, and loss of time.

With this app you can easily apply naming conventions to your elements. You get a great overview of the names currently used in your project and ensure that they are properly set.

The features “find and replace” and “wrap” allow making group changes for a selection or all elements in a table.

With the key features “export to Excel” and “export Lexicon to Excel” you can make changes in Excel or even define a set of possible values for an element (one example is to create data for multiple languages).

You can easily save your changes into the Autodesk® Revit® model by clicking the Sync button.

CSI Link Plus

From the Autodesk App Store:

CSI Link Plus is an external application for Autodesk® Revit® that enables users to transfer the analytical models from Revit to CSI SAFE and CSI ETABS for structural analysis. The goal is to eliminate the need for any extra modeling work in the target software meaning once the export file is generated, the structural model from the CSI application will be open and ready to run the analysis.

To achieve this goal the CSI Link Plus add-on in Revit must be able to export all required data for structural analysis in addition to the structural model. This information includes Design codes /material specification/load pattern, load cases, and load combinations.

List of elements can be exported/generated using CSI Link Plus

OBJ Converter Pro for Autodesk® Revit®

From the Autodesk App Store:

About the OBJ format:
The OBJ file format is a simple data format that represents 3D geometry which contains polygons defined as a list of vertices, and indices. Vertices are stored in a counter-clockwise order by default, making an explicit declaration of the face normal unnecessary. OBJ coordinates have no units, but OBJ files can contain scale information.

About this application
Create an obj file of your design in a moment and share it with anyone in one go. It will translate designs to a universally accepted format .obj

Revit 3D models can be distributed to a third party without the need to have Autodesk® Revit® in their system.

The output file can be used for AR/VR and apps like Unity.

How to Backup Your Blogger Blog(s)

Those of us in the Revit community might recall last year when Luke Johnson's What Revit Wants blog was taken down unceremoniously by Blogger, without notice. Luke had to reassemble his blog on Word Press, and, I know this from talking to him, using incomplete data. To those of us who use Blogger, this should serve as a warning to us to routinely backup our blogs.

Here at Revit Add-ons, we create backups weekly, and we thought we'd share the process with the community.

There are two things we should backup:
  1. Posts (text only)
  2. Images

On Blogger, there's a way to backup posts (as an XML file) under Settings > Other, but DO NOT bother with it – it doesn't include images.

Panel Schedule to Excel
