The UNIFI Team has been hard at work to release a new version of our content management solution that’s compatible with Revit 2018 and over 60 new features and bug fixes! We call it v2.3, but we know you are most interested in what’s included – here are a few highlights:

New Features/Enhancements:

• Support for Revit 2018 as well as previous Revit versions.
• Batch Insert from Search – You can now insert multiple items into a family by multi-selecting (via shift-click or control-click) from the search results page, right clicking and selecting Batch Insert from the context menu.
• Insert into Families, not just Projects – we now allow you to insert a family from UNIFI into another RFA.
• Open Families into the Family Editor – we’re hoping to cut down some steps when editing a family by allowing users to click an Edit button in the file details that will open a family directly in the Family Editor of Revit.
• Pending Batch Upload Details – We’ve added a little bit more detail to the pending batch upload screen. Thank to Kristina for the suggestion!
• Inserting Type Catalogs – Added more horsepower behind inserting type catalogs. You should notice a difference when inserting type catalogs of significant size.

The Week that was in Revit Add-ons for May 29 - Jun 4, 2017

Last week was a holiday week here in the US as we paused on Memorial Day to remember the people who died while serving in our armed forces.

3 new methods of option generation added in addition to the existing Cross Product method: Random, Like This, and Combine Favorites.

Fractal Design Option Generation Methods

Cross Product (default)

1. Generate divides the input slider range (set by the max and min on publish from Dynamo) by the set number of variations
2. Generate creates all possible combinations of inputs with the  “vary” checkbox selected, using non-varying inputs as constants.
3. Calculated stop values are rounded down to the closest, smaller step value
4. The maximum slider value will always be used for a stop, regardless of if it is a valid step value
5. The calculated number of designs indicates the number of designs that can be created. This number does NOT account for existing designs.

The form creation engine in Revit does not really know about flat vertical zero thickness surfaces. However, with DirectShape, we can make almost any type of mesh geometry. One interesting idea coming out of the RTC ANZ event this year was creating these flat surfaces to display grids in 3D. This lets us do things like dimension easily in Navisworks or Revizto. I wanted to use them to add some flat datum lines to a construction setout point family.

Since I have been doing a lot more documentation work in Revit these days, I have become significantly more interested in how Dynamo can automate certain documentation tasks. One task that can always drive me crazy (especially in Revit) is renumbering viewports on sheets.

There are several different ways you can renumber viewports. I decided to use a simple ‘pick’ method so I wouldn’t have to do any reordering in Dynamo. This method works well with a smaller number of views, though it might be worth using a slightly more complex method if you have sheets full of details that need to be renumbered.
