Two New Conceptual Design Tools for More Fluid, Powerful BIM-based Workflow
Today at the AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, Autodesk launched Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro and Autodesk Dynamo Studio, two new conceptual design tools designed to help building professionals support a more fluid, powerful Building Information Modeling [BIM] based workflow.
“Conceptual design has always been a necessary and important part of the architectural design process, but it has been disconnected from other parts of the workflow,” said Jim Lynch, Vice President, Building and Collaboration Product Line Group, Autodesk. “FormIt 360 Pro and Dynamo Studio help support the conceptual design stage and give architects the means to create a more fluid and connected BIM workflow than ever before.”
Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro
The new Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro offers powerful analysis and cloud-enhanced collaboration capabilities previously not available in the free version of FormIt 360. As with the free version, Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro is a web and mobile app for early stage BIM connected conceptual design. It helps users to capture design ideas quickly and easily using intuitive 3D sketching tools and then collaborate, analyze, and iterate these ideas.
Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro goes a step further by adding analysis and cloud-enabled collaboration capabilities. Users can understand performance from day one with energy and solar analysis, see the relationship between design concept and site location with shadow and sun path studies, and import a map underlay of the physical site to their model.
With FormIt Collaboration for FormIt 360 Pro, architects can work on models concurrently with other team members, whether on an iPad or Android tablet while on the go, or on a web browser back at the office. Both FormIt 360 and FormIt 360 Pro offer native AutodeskRevit integration, so that users can easily connect their conceptual designs to downstream BIM processes for more fluid workflows. Another new feature, FormIt Converter, allows users to import SketchUp and Revit data as editable geometry within FormIt 360 and FormIt 360 Pro.
Dynamo Studio
The new Dynamo Studio helps designers create visual logic to explore parametric conceptual designs and automate tasks within a standalone environment. Prior to the introduction of Dynamo Studio, designers were required to use Dynamo in conjunction with other design and documentation software. As a standalone, untethered solution, Dynamo Studio helps to extend design into interoperable workflows for documentation, fabrication, coordination, simulation and analysis to rapidly test and iterate designs to discover more options in less time.
And, by combining a free-standing solution with the added benefit of being compatible with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional, Excel, SAP2000, Tableau, Rhinoceros and other applications, Dynamo Studio helps support a more fluid and efficient BIM-connected computational design process. It provides greater freedom and flexibility, enabling designers to solve challenges faster by designing workflows that drive the geometry and behavior of building design models.
